Whilst at Portsmouth I was able to study abroad through the Erasmus programme, spending a year in Paris.  Following gradation I worked for BDP and Architecture PLB, switching to the then relatively stable retail sector when the crash hit.  I dealt with a wide range of clients from Hollister to Apple and finally for Sainsburys as their in house Architect.  Last year we made the jump and moved to Iceland, where I now work at PK Arkitektar in the centre of Reykjavik.  Portsmouth to me was a real practice friendly course and gave me through the wide range of philosophies and backgrounds of its tutors the best and broadest understanding of what architecture and being an Architect is about, and helped to give me the confidence to tackle the wide ranging challenges my career has given me.

    Studied: Master of Architecture
Current job: Working under Terry Farrell

My studies for Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture led me to develop strong technical and design abilities.  After graduating I was offered employment in Hong Kong with an internationally renowned architectural practice, working on projects in Qatar, China and Hong Kong. Returning to London for my Part 3 I am currently working under Terry Farrell on a challenging masterplan in London. When qualified as an Architect I will be returning abroad to either Malaysia or India, working on the "fun stuff”.

Current job: Architect at Levitt Bernstein Architects

Portsmouth has always been a strong advocate of context ..the school also places a strong emphasis on the profession of architecture as a business and allows students to engage with practice and live projects…. teaching you the most important skill that’s required as an architect – communication.  These skills have benefited me immensely. I’m currently working on three sites in London overlooking the River Thames providing residential accommodation for the elderly. The project, requires numerous design workshops and consultation events to be held …It’s a challenging project but the communication and design skills that I’ve been taught and acquired over the years at Portsmouth School of Architecture have been invaluable.

    Current job: DMWA Architects

The course exceeded my expectations, and challenged the preconceptions that I had developed working in practice.  Portsmouth successfully balances the fine line between the theoretical side of architecture with the practical, and enabled me to develop an individual approach to design.  Following employment with John Pardey Architects, a prestigious, design led practice, I have now formed a small successful practice (DMWA) with two former colleagues. Studying at Portsmouth has placed me in a good position to run an Architectural practice and I would recommend this career path to anyone with a passion for design and an aspiration to challenge themselves.
