‘The ‘Practice’ of Interior Education’
L. Mesher, T. Wallbridge, B.Mitchell
‘The interior courses at the Portsmouth School of Architecture have been developing approaches to teaching which have involved using live projects as a way to engage students with interior design. These projects have become a key part of the courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level of study. The design briefs have encouraged a collaborative approach to design and also ensured that students start to engage with real problems for design projects.’
Planned future research outputs
Published output together with possibilities for funding, possible conference papers, possible exhibition are developing with the intention to publish or exhibit over the next 5 years;
- On-going research projects investigating how ‘overwriting’ place with cultural heritage, experience and narrative can deepen contextual understanding and inform authentic contemporary place-making and design.
In September – November 2015, Tina collaborated in an art installation (Layered Narratives of Material Place) with students from ACI that was exhibited in the CHALK hub venue. The collaborative artwork was the result of a competitive invitation process to participate as part of the biennial interdisciplinary arts platform 10 day (www.10dayswinchester.org) involving over 100 artists and writers in events and exhibitions in 7 Public Cultural venues across Winchester from 10 October to 7 November 2015.
- Examining how articulation through making can synthesis theory to inform Architecture, Art and Design Education and Practice. Studio pedagogy currently reflects this methodology.
Paper submitted to HEA STEMM conference October 2016 – ‘Curiosity: In search of self’.
