Recruitment and Outreach
We offer a wide range of activities and resources designed to inform and inspire young people aged 11-16 about higher education, its benefits and opportunities. We aim to provide engagement opportunities which support and enhance the curriculum, pupils’ experiences of university and prepare participants for life post-16.
An intensive project-based programme of activities for years seven to 11, working with groups of pupils in selected schools (schools already selected for 2017/18).
A variety of on-campus activities for years seven to 11, focused on raising aspirations, supporting personal development and showcasing university life. These activities are available to our target schools (schools already selected for 2017/18).
Support at in-school events for years 10 and 11, providing an insight into academic and student life at the University of Portsmouth. Open to all schools (subject to availability).
Challenge based programme of on-campus and in-school activities focused on increasing pupils’ confidence and ability in literacy alongside raising their aspirations and awareness of Higher Education.
A six month programme of in-school and on-campus sports science linked activities. Working alongside Student Ambassadors and current sport science students pupils will be encouraged to share and discuss science based issues whilst developing a variety of personal skills.
Step UP to Uni life aims to provide participants with the study skills, academic and social confidence, and strategies to succeed in achieving their academic goals. The mixed programme of activities will give participants a taste of university life allowing them to picture themselves as university students.
An on-campus event giving participants the opportunity to discover the benefits of higher education and show how they can overcome perceived barriers to entering university.
Subject-focused activities designed to help participants with their GCSE option choices. Participants will work alongside current students and our academic staff to get a taste of what it would be like to study their favourite subject at university and discover new subject areas.
We offer support at options and careers evenings in schools, providing relevant information about the University including student life, courses and entry requirements. We can also highlight the progression routes from GCSE subjects through to Higher education and potential career destinations.
An engaging 10-15 minute assembly presentation delivered by a member of the team.
