Student Ambassadors

The Recruitment and Outreach Team run two schemes with current students.

Student Mentoring Scheme

Do you want to inspire young people and support them to achieve their potential?

Are you enthusiastic and proactive?

Do you have a passion for learning?

The Student Mentoring Scheme places fully trained students from the University of Portsmouth into local schools to work with small groups of Year 10 pupils on a weekly basis. The objective of the scheme is to support pupils so that they:

  • are encouraged to achieve the highest levels in all aspects of school life
  • have a broader idea of courses and career opportunities that are available to them after school
  • develop revision, study and thinking skills that will help them to prepare for later examinations

Student Ambassadors

We have a very successful Student Ambassador scheme. Student Ambassadors support the widening participation and outreach activity of the Recruitment and Outreach team. Student Ambassadors predominantly work with young people aged 9-18 years on a variety of activities targeted at raising aspirations and encouraging young people to think about their progression routes.

Student Ambassadors are provided with extensive and ongoing training, ensuring that they add value to our events by sharing their enthusiasm for their subject and passion for HE. We have over 70 Student Ambassadors all of whom are current University students and come from a wide range of backgrounds.

For some Student Ambassadors higher education was not an automatic choice, which means they are excellent role models for those who may feel unsure about continuing with their studies or have financial concerns.
