A public lecture by June Purvis, Emeritus Professor of Women's and Gender History. The struggle for women’s suffrage in Britain, begun in 1865, was hard and long. It was not until 1928 that equal suffrage was granted to women. This talk will explore the campaigns of the suffrage societies, especially the suffragette movement, founded by Emmeline Pankhurst in 1903.
