Sociology and Social Theory
Research interests of group members are wide-ranging and located in the disciplinary field of sociology and the interdisciplinary domain of social theory. Areas of the discipline of sociology in which members of the group have internationally recognized expertise include classical and contemporary sociological thought; sociology of economic life; social exclusion; human/nonhuman animal relations and questions of rights; the cultural economy of sport; and the impact of technology on social, cultural, and economic life; social & cultural theory, including critical theory, poststructuralism and continental philosophy; social theory and economic analysis; ethics, morality, and human/non-human animal rights; identity and the self; couple relationships; and political economy of (post)industrialism and information society.
In addition to areas of expertise identified above, supervisory interests include: consumer culture and economic life; globalization; risk; ageing and gender; environmental sociology; ethics and morality in contemporary society; modernity and identity; taste, social class and culture; youth culture and student life; material culture; violence and war; urban sociology; comparative social policy; and couple and family relationships.
