'Post-Hapsburg identities: Czernovitz as an enclave of urban German-Jewish culture' is the research topic of an international network called 'Arbeitskreis Czernowitzer Presse' founded and co-ordinated by Susanne Marten-Finnis and Markus Winkler. The network comprises scholars from the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Romania and the Ukraine. It has been funded by the Saxon Ministry of the Interior, Dresden, the Deutsches Kulturforum östliches Europa, Potsdam, the Conçept Foundation, a member of the Soros Open Network, in Bucharest, and Queen's University Belfast.

We conceived the network in order to fund access to primary sources and collaboration with academics, librarians and archivists in Romania and the Ukraine, and to fund annual conferences and workshops with academics at the above mentioned universities. An important aim is also to scan into digital form the complete German language press of Czernovitz under Romanian rule.
