Great Britain Historical Geographical Information System (GBHGIS)
If you want to be kept informed about new developments with the system, and be consulted on changes, ask to join this e-mail list at JISCmail.
NB This is a controlled membership list. Applications to join will generally be accepted from researchers known to the project, and from staff of UK libraries, archives, etc. Other people wanting to join should contact us and explain their interest.
The first list is focused on Britain and on our particular system. A major focus is how best to record the enormously complex history of British administrative units in a computer system. Humphrey Southall is also the "owner" of this open-access e-mail list for the general discussion of historical applications of GIS technology.
You can choose to keep up to date on news specifically about the website A Vision of Britain through Time through our blog posts. Launched in June 2011 and replacing the "news section" of the website the VisionofBritain blog describes the website-related activities of the team as well as more general information such as progress updates on current projects, meetings and conferences attended and publications.
This blog keeps track of developments and progress with our new website, Old Maps Online, which has been developed in partnership with Klokan Technologies GmbH. The website acts as a geographical search portal to collections of histroical maps held in institutions around the world.
