Graduate Engineer - KTP Associate

The Institute of Industrial Research at the University of Portsmouth has received an industrial research grant funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) for a project to develop an intelligent diagnostics system for Flight Data Recorders. The product has the potential to offer an automatic remote diagnostics system for the commercial aircraft industry.

This project will fund a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with an innovative Engineering company called Flight Data Services Ltd in Fareham, Hampshire.  The KTP Scheme allows recently qualified graduates to work in companies managing challenging projects central to their development needs. For mor information, visit: www.ktponline.org.uk.

This has created an exciting opportunity for a Mathematics, Engineering or Science graduate with a good first degree and an interest in the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques within computer systems. This is a 24-month development programme that could lead to further employment at FDS Ltd.

The role of the graduate:

You will be based at the company in Fareham but will work closely with the Institute of Industrial Research in Portsmouth. You will investigate flight data recorder system failure modes and devise algorithms to detect and identify these automatically, resulting in a pass/fail test result with a report that identifies the nature of the fault.

For an informal discussion prior to application, please ring Dr David Brown on +44(0) 7831-631672. Please have a look at our website www.port.ac.uk/iir.
