02: Pterodactylus, a typical short-tailed pterosaur.
03: The long-tailed pterosaur Sordes pilosus in which some of the soft tissues are preserved. This specimen is from the Late Jurassic Karatau Formation of Kazakhstan. Image kindly supplied by Dr David Unwin.
04: Hind foot of an azhdarchoid pterosaur in which the claw sheaths are preserved as an orange-brown trace in limonite.
05: Death of a pterosaur. A closer inspection of these three pterosaur neck vertebrae revealed a dinosaur tooth embedded in the bone. The tooth appears to be that of a dinosaur related to Spinosaurus, a dinosaur which is thought to have been piscivorous. Perhaps this dinosaur was scavenging on a carcass washed onto a beach.
