Research Groups and Clusters

Research at Portsmouth Business School is oriented along both Subject Group and Research Group/Cluster lines.

All Subject Groups and the School of Law are responsible for the general encouragement of research within their area and do this by; running regular staff seminar programmes, completing staff PDRs (including reviewing past research performance and future research plans), workload planning to facilitate research activity, and providing funds for conference attendances. They are also responsible for the care of Research Degree Students in that particular Subject Group Area. Individual Subject Group research web-pages can be found at:

Research Groups (>5 PBS staff) and Research Clusters (2-5 PBS staff) are smaller, groups of staff drawn from within the Subject Group (or from across the Subject Groups) whose research is focussed upon a more narrow disciplinary theme. These groups/clusters are expected to develop their own Strategic Development Plans 2012-2017 (which are congruent with the Faculty Research Strategy), provide details of their current and past research activities, and show case the particular interests and publications of their members.  Some members of the Research Group/Cluster may also have their own Research Degree students, and these are also displayed on the Group/Cluster’s web-page.  Portsmouth Business School current has the following Research Groups/Clusters:

Portsmouth Business School is also home to the Centre for the Economics and Management of Aquatic Resources (CEMARE), a ‘world-leading centre of fisheries policy advice and consultancy’ [RAE, 2008], whose website can be found here.

Members of the Business School are also active in the University's Environment and Ageing Networks.
