Profile

The Grants Officer provides pre-award support for external funding for all forms of research and research-led knowledge transfer activity.  This includes the provision of information on funding opportunities and assistance with the preparation of applications.  The Grants Officer also works with the academic community to bring together multi-disciplinary teams and to co-ordinate bids across the institution.

Resume

Karen graduated from Keele University in 1983 with a double first class Honours degree in Biology and Geography.  She then spent 2 years in Zimbabwe with VSO teaching Science in a rural secondary school before returning to the UK to take up a research position with ICI Agrochemicals.  She stayed with ICI for a further 12 years, moving into European technical management, global product management and finally into European product registration. 

Since moving to Portsmouth in 2000, she has worked for the Land Registry, as a consultant for a contract analytical company (pharmaceutical, agrochemical and biocides sectors) and as a designer/office manager for a local kitchen design company.  Karen joined the University of Portsmouth, being appointed to her current post of Grants Officer, in May 2007.
