University of Portsmouth staff may have opportunities for mentoring available to them through their Departments and Faculties but staff can also register with the institution’s SUMAC mentor matching system.

The NIHR Research Design Service
If you are applying for funding for health or social care related research, your local office of the NIHR Research Design Service in the South central region can help you. We support applications to charities, Research Councils, Royal Colleges as well as NIHR funding, provided the funding stream is national, peer-reviewed and competitions are open to all. We are a team of methodologists and provide advice on many areas: finding suitable funding, study design including methodological expertise, building a research team, advice on writing a compelling grant application, involving public/patients in your research. We can support grants from a very early stage of development through to last minute review. Human Resources Excellence in Research Award
The University has been awarded the Human Resources Excellence in Research Award. The Award is given to organisations which have a robust strategy for improving the career development and management of its researchers.
Four year review
In May 2017, as part of the four-year review, we updated our action plan, developed new actions and produced a report highlighting the main achievements. To highlight the work of the Researchers’ Network we have also developed a case study. Below are the documents produced from this process.
Original action plan and two year review
In 2012 the University conducted a review of its policies and practices comparing them to the principles of the concordat. Subsequently a gap analysis was created highlighting the support that the University already provides as well as bringing to prominence the areas in which the institution can improve.
