Systems Engineering Research Group (SERG)

Research income

Recent active grants

The group surpassed our aims again last year and we have expanded further as external industrial funding has increased again.  We continued our collaboration with Motiontouch Ltd to investigate new intelligent modular design and manufacturing methods (including rapid prototyping systems) and continued with a project to create new software multi-media methods and platforms in collaboration with Counterpoint MTC.  Gareth Lambert completed an HEFCE(E) Bursary working in collaboration with VT Shipbuilding and Lorna Models took over the sponsorship of Stephen Urwin-Wright to continue his research into the generic use of ANNs.  The National Health Service and Chailey Heritage are sponsoring Martin Langner and Motiontouch Ltd are sponsoring Ian Rogers and Henry Powell as research students.  Shalini Ramlall was awarded an ORS Studentship and is continuing work in collaboration with Motiontouch Ltd.

The future looks positive as new applications for research studentships have been received.  Andy Painting is being funded by BVT Fleet to begin research studies in 2009 and new pplications for further funding are being prepared (and others are being drafted) for new collaborative work with industrial partners in 2009 / 2010.
