Biography

I am the Course Leader of MSc Property Development at the University of Portsmouth where I also teach sustainable cities, transport and environmental management themes to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Prior to joining the University, I had a long career in professional practice at the interface of the environment, transport and economic development in the UK and Canada. My qualifications include both technical depth and practical management know-how in turning communities into modern, sustainable place-products. There are, however, many cultural, economic and political barriers to the promotion of sustainable environments and my experience has made me wary of inherited knowledge and the status quo, and provided an eye for the post-conventional. As a result, my interests today revolve around an integral ethical perspective that promotes biodiversity and well-being within the context of critical and alternative cultural and intellectual traditions. I have published a number of refereed articles and numerous governmental and consulting reports, spoken at numerous conferences and seminars and was, formerly, a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners.
