What is Distance Learning?
Our part time, distance learning (DL) courses enable you to gain a higher education qualification without a embarking on a full time, campus based degree programme. This means that you can study at the University of Portsmouth from virtually anywhere in the world. Plus, you'll have the flexibility to do your job or manage family life while you study.
Distance learning allows you to study at a time, place and pace that suits you. Instead of attending lectures on our campus, you'll have access to our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) via any internet connected device. Here, you'll find bespoke interactive course materials, created by our experts, expecially for you. You'll be able to connect with staff and fellow students, attend online seminars, and submit coursework and assignments online.
An undergraduate degree could help you advance your career, or progress to postgraduate (Masters level) study or research.
What is a 'top up' course?
In the School of Computing at the University of Portsmouth, we offer two undergraduate courses by distance learning; both are part time 'top up' courses.
Top up courses are designed to provide a final year of study at degree level for students who already have qualifications such as HNDs or Advanced Diplomas in a relevant subject. Because these courses are studied part time, while you continue in your job, they typically take 2 years to complete.

BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems DL (top up)
