I am a PhD Researcher within the Faculty of Science.

PhD Title- From Catchment to Tap: Source and fate of polar organic chemicals and their associated risks
My research focuses on the identification and prioritisation of polar organic contaminants of emerging environmental concern, within river catchments used for capitation of potable water. Once identified said polar organics of emerging environmental concern will be tracked at different stages of drinking water treatment process. This work is being undertaken in collaboration with an industrial partner (Southern Water).
This PhD will further the understanding of the risk posed to the supply of drinking water, by emerging organic micro-pollutants such as pesticides, pharmaceutical residues, hormones, flame-retardants, plasticizers, and herbicides as well as metabolites and degradation by-products of these chemicals. This research will also provide qualitative and quantitative information characterising said risks, with reference to prevailing water quality regulations. To this end the Chemcatcher® passive sampling device will be deployed to sequester trace polar organics in a river catchment and a water treatment works. An LC-MS/MS method will be employed to generate data.
