School of Engineering
Formula Student challenges university students to conceive, design, build, cost and compete as a team with a small, single-seat racing car in a series of static and dynamic competitions.
The scheme provides opportunities for students to demonstrate and improve their capabilities to deliver successful product in the demanding environment of a motorsport competition. The competition not only focuses on the engineering of the car; students also develop other skills needed in industry through the business and costing events.
The student-led team at the University of Portsmouth has recently recruited a number of new members from courses as diverse as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Graphic Design, Web Technologies and even Video Games Enterprise.
They're busy developing their 6th car for competition in the 2014-15 season and are looking to grow on their best ever result of 16th place at Formula Student Spain 2014.
The team are always looking to grow their contacts with businesses both local and from further afield. In the past year the team has successfully found new partners in H&S Aviation, St. Cross Electronics and Visteon HVCC for components on their car and manufacturing capabilities.
