Biography

I completed a full-time PhD having successfully obtained funding in the first round of the UK Department of Health “New Researcher Award for Nurses and Professions Allied to Medicine”. Using a mixed methods research approach I completed a systematic review for the Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care Group of the Cochrane Collaboration on the use of the omega-3 fatty acid EPA to treat weight loss in advanced cancer patients, a randomised controlled trial using an EPA nutritional supplement and a qualitative study looking at nurses management of weight loss in advanced cancer patients. Previous research interests and publications include: four systematic reviews for the Airways Group of Cochrane and qualitative research projects working with vulnerable groups including: advanced cancer patients severely disabled multiple sclerosis patients, and mental health patients.

In my role as senior lecturer I am responsible for the Nursing Pathway of the Professional Doctorate course as well teaching and supporting other postgraduate and PhD students.
