Prior to my current position as Senior Nurse lecturer, I have gained significant clinical knowledge and expertise working as a nurse within the NHS for over 20 years. I have two Bachelor of Sciences Awards within Nursing(1st class honors and a 2:1) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Management. My experiences have been far reaching from working in the Acute sector within Medicine, Neurological intensive care, Oncology and stem cell transplantation to developing specialist expertise in the field of Primary care nursing. My most recent role as a Community Matron has involved supporting individuals and their carers living with multiple complex long term conditions to manage their condition in their own homes and to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. With a second degree as a Community Specialist practitioner I have also gained Advanced history taking and physical assessment skills, mentorship skills and am a non medical prescriber (Masters accreditation); Skills that have enabled service users to expedite care of the highest quality. I have also developed a strategic interest in pursuing quality in the workplace and am heavily involved with Clinical Governance.
I am registered as an Adult Nurse and as a Community Specialist Practitioner with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Uk .
Whilst maintaining links with practice to ensure my clinical practice remains contemporaneous, I am now working at the University part time lecturing on the new and exciting Bachelor of Nursing programme. My role within this is to act as a community specialist resource linking theory to practice and I am also instrumental in a strategic role locating, auditing and securing placements for our student nurses to gain practice experience. Personal tutor and link lecturer to clinical areas.
My research areas include:
. Student nurses experiences in practice settings.
. Clinical supervision models and the introduction of Schwartz rounds into community settings for clinicians
. Care of the Older Adult
. Primary care
