Biography

I began my career as an enrolled nurse at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, then qualified as a registered nurse at University Hospital Southampton where I worked for over 20 years in neurological and rehabilitation nursing. Following completion of my Masters in Education I moved into teaching and taught health studies at University of Winchester for six years.

Alongside my full time work I am completing a part-time Doctorate in Education (finishing 2017) where I am focussing on new ways of giving student feedback using computer technology. I was appointed to the role of Senior Lecturer in the University of Portsmouth in September 2016.

I am registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK
I am a member of the Royal College of Nursing

Teaching Responsibilities

I am a senior lecturer on the Bachelor of Nursing (Adult) programme. I am the Unit Leader for the Foundations of Nursing Knowledge (U25339), Evidenced based decision making (U25343) and Service Improvement Project (U25351).

Other roles and teaching responsibilities include: The delivery of teaching simulation and clinical skills to nurse undergraduates. Assessment of academic and clinical skills. Curriculum development and review. I am a Personal nurse tutor and Link lecturer to clinical areas.

I am also a member of the SHSSW Assessment Approval Panel.

Research

My research interests are: Assessment and feedback, educational pedagogy. dementia and long term health conditions.

I am involved in a cross University project with the University of Winchester entitled: Shades of meaning: An exploration of student and tutor perceptions of nuance within written and audio feedback.
