Teaching Responsibilities

Gillian teaches shorthand (a core discipline for journalists) across the Journalism degrees at the University of Portsmouth.  She is a Personal Tutor at Levels 4 and 5 and is the Level 5 Year Tutor. Gillian teaches shorthand in an innovative way that incorporates modern technologies and ‘real world’ scenarios.  She has been an examiner for the NCTJ Shorthand Board and a regular speaker at the annual NCTJ Shorthand Conference.

Gillian also contributes to other units such as Academic and Professional Skills and draws upon her HR management experience as the journalism departmental lead for the LiFE (Learning from Experience) and LiFE+ Units which allow students to gain academic credit for work placements. These units provide significant employability benefits when students graduate and seek their first professional post.
