Scientific Testing and Research Facilities
Electron Microscopy and X-Ray Laboratory
An extensive range of X-Ray facilities
This specialist facility brings you advanced imaging as well as chemical and mineralogical analyses of a wide range of materials. The University's onsite laboratory provides cost-effective analytical services, backed by internationally-recognised research groups.
Our laboratory includes the following testing equipment and expertise:
- X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF): rapid, accurate and precise quantitative chemical analyses using the state-of-the-art Rigaku Primus II XRF system
- X-Ray Diffraction (XRD): rapid, qualitative and semi-quantitative mineral phase analyses using our high performance Panalytical Powder XRD
- X-Ray microanalysis using electron microscopy: in-situ chemical analysis, mapping, process mineralogy using the Zeiss EVO10MA LAB6 system
- Electron Diffraction (EBSD): for sub-micron scale phase identification, strain mapping, defect analysis and other crystallographic measurements
This laboratory is part of UPGEL
UPGEL - the University of Portsmouth Geological and Environmental Laboratories - support industry and academia in solving complex earth and environment-related problems. Our strength is a multi-disciplined approach to problem solving combined with a wide range of high-quality, managed testing equipment housed in one facility. Find out more about UPGEL.
