Rock Mechanics Laboratory

Bespoke batch testing of rocks

Rock Mechanics Testing

We have a modern rock physics and rock mechanics suite capable of a wide range of testing on consolidated rock materials. Our capabilities include determination of:

  • UCS and triaxial strength
  • Shear strength
  • Permeability at shallow-to-mid-crustal simulated conditions
  • Seismic wave velocity
  • Sample recoring and sample preparation

Specialist consultancy

Based within the University, the laboratory is supported by our Rock Mechancics Research Group, giving you access to our specialists. You can find out more about the laboratory and the research group on the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences website.
