Association of University Administrators (AUA)
The Association of University Administrators
The AUA is the professional body for managers and administrators working in HE in the UK and Ireland. It was formed from a merger of CUA and APA (Conference of University Administrators and Association of Polytechnic Administrators) when the Polytechnics acquired university status, so has a history dating back to the 1960s and 70s.
Its aim is to promote excellence in HE management and administration and it is committed to raising the profile of management and administration in HE as a profession, developing best practice and high standards in the area.
The AUA has a code of professional standards within which members are expected to operate. Personal development within this code is seen as the key to achieving excellence in HE management and administration in the belief that people are the key resource of organisations.
Membership
The AUA currently has about 4000 members in total across the UK, at present there are only 33 for Portsmouth. Membership is very varied and the people who join are drawn from a variety of levels and areas. Nationally the AUA has members who are senior managers, Vice Chancellors and directors but most members are middle managers and administrators. Membership of the AUA is open to all those members of staff within the University of Portsmouth who are involved in management, administrative or clerical duties, are committed to promoting excellence in their work, and who are willing to work to a code of professional standards.
Activities and Events
Here at the University of Portsmouth branch, local members can develop and support each other through activities and events. Over the next year it is hoped to organise a variety of interesting sessions including: ?Progressing your Career in HE Management and Administration? and ?Introducing the AUA at Portsmouth? which will include a branch lunch for members, guests and prospective members. In addition, the AUA holds an annual conference at HE establishments around the UK. Support is available for a number of staff to attend the conference and those staff who attend are asked to write reports on the sessions they attend in order to feed back to their managers and University of Portsmouth AUA members. See our conference page for more details.
