Property professionals in private practice, business and the public sector are dependent on obtaining reliable spatial information. Traditionally, this has involved published plans and maps in hard copy and plans produced following surveys of individual buildings and sites. The world has moved on, and digital products and applications have now transformed practice. The principal source is, of course, the Ordnance Survey and this course will help delegates understand what OS offers, how it can be used and what future developments are anticipated. It is held at the new OS headquarters in Southampton and includes a tour of the building to see work in progress and to explain technical and architectural aspects of this exciting new building.
The course covers:
- the Ordnance Survey
- overview of services
- digital products and their use by property professionals
- tour of the building
About the building:
The three-storey building, built by Keir and replacing the earlier William Roy building a mile away, began to be occupied in December 2010 and was fully occupied by Easter 2011. It has been designed to be energy efficient and have a low environmental impact with naturally ventilated offices and computer controlled windows; an extensive ground-source heat-pump system to cool and heat the building, a rainwater harvesting system and a computerised lighting system to reduce electricity consumption. The building has been awarded BREEAM 2006 ‘Excellent’.
This course will be delivered by a team of OS staff familiar with the needs of the property professions. It is convened by
Phil Watts who is Head of Corporate Affairs and a Chartered Surveyor.
