Asbestos remains the biggest single cause of work-related deaths and there are still at least 500,000 non-domestic buildings containing asbestos in some form. A fundamental part of managing the risk in buildings is by means of an asbestos survey. The H&S Executive has recognised that asbestos surveys have varied widely in both quality and scope and has sought to control that by providing more effective, and stringent, guidance and issuing regular updates to the regulations. The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 made changes to ensure compliance with the EU directive on exposure. Practitioners need to be aware of the issues and up-to-date with procedures and regulations.
The course will cover:
- use and location of asbestos in buildings
- classification of types and recognition
- assessment of risk
- removal procedures
- legislative and regulatory framework
- current asbestos survey guidelines
