Pre-arrival material for 2011 students

These pages provide information for staff on some of the material students will receive before they arrive and during induction for 2011. The information should assist staff when advising new students during the first few weeks of term.

Your Portsmouth 2011

Upon confirmation of a place with us, new students receive a Freshers' pack through the post and have access to the Your Portsmouth website at www.port.ac.uk/yourportsmouth.

The packs are designed and produced centrally by Academic Registry and Corporate Communications and are distributed through our mailing house. The packs contain information on what students need to do both before they arrive and when they get here such as applying for a campus card, paying fees and finding a doctor, plus where to go for induction and registration. Packs are also tailored for our postgraduate and international students and distance learners.

Communicating with students 2011

A presentation Student Induction 2011, listed below, is available for staff to use during induction to introduce new students to the various ways in which we will communicate with them plus information regarding student services, sources of information and the shared commitments of both the University and students during their time here. Please use this presentation with your students during the first weeks of term.

Student handbooks

The University Student Handbook is completely generic and applicable to all audiences and is, in some respects, the equivalent of a contract or student charter. It contains important information about the University’s responsibilities and our expectations of our students, therefore all students should receive it. If your students do not routinely receive this handbook, please contact corporate.communications@port.ac.uk to obtain separate copies. 

If you want to provide additional information for specific groups of students then please do this via a Handbook Supplement – as already is the case for Departmental Handbooks. Please do not reproduce, alter or paraphrase any of the information contained in the Student Handbook or the separate Academic Regulations as this can, and has, laid the University open to student complaints.

Pocket guide to student services

Replacing the Purple Pages, this reduced pocket guide will be given to all students on arrival and gives brief contact details of all student services. A pdf version is available, below.

RAS 2011

Below you will also find a document containing a statement to introduce the plans for the revisions to the academic year from 2012. This document may help you answer any questions from students during the first weeks of term.
