Biography

Omar Saleh is a talented and exceptional business leader and consultant with real-life expertise and practice in most aspects of today's business environment. His unique mix of skills, education and experience owes itself in great part to 40 years of working with some of the most recognised multinational power brands in the world. These include, but are not restricted to: IBM, Shell, Ernst & Young, Courtaulds, John Brown, Mosaix (Digital Systems International and Viewstar Software Inc), Gulf Inspection International, Aventis, Syngenta, Renault, Philips, AXA Fortis, Egg, KOC, Burroughs Machines and  BP.

Omar is a lecturer at University in Portsmouth Business School in the Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation Subject Group. He is also Chairman and Managing Director of Focuspoint Organisation Ltd and, until last July, a Global Director with Ernst & Young. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts Manufactures & Commerce and was a Vice Chair of the European Marketing Confederation.

Omar's 40 years of expertise started in Engineering in the Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil and Gas Industries where he quickly gained his Chartered Engineering recognition, together with membership of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He was one of the youngest to achieve this at the time. He quickly moved to the business world crossing Industries and functions and amassing a valuable mix of achievements in the fields of business strategy, marketing, sales, brand management and communications. His focus and specialisation in those fields covers: Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Efficiency & Effectiveness of Distribution Channels and Supply Chain (E2E Value Chain), Marketing Mix Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) including impact and influence on Corporate Governance of Organisations. He is an advisor to large and medium companies on strategy, (with specific focus on implementation, change management and business modelling), Key Account Management (including GTM methods), Sales and Investor Relations.

Omar has worked extensively across multi-cultural business and none business environments on strategic and operational change management programmes and initiatives in over 30 countries for over 35 years. His latest 15 years have seen him spending significant time (over 40%) on such initiatives in Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore, Australia, Brasil, Mexico, USA, Canada, The Middle East and over most Western European Countries.

 

Omar is a very keen sportsman (both participative and arm-chair), an avid reader and cinema goer! He is married with three grown up children and lives in Portsmouth, UK.

Research

One of Omar's own interests for future research lies in the practice of linking strategy and its implementation to ERM and Corporate Governance and bench marking these across differing types of organisational business models (Anglo Saxon, Germanic, Scandinavian, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Middle Eastern and Latino incl Latin American). Omar would be especially delighted to exchange insights, debates and  discussions on these topics.
