Portsmouth was the home to key historical figures including Charles Dickens, Brunel and Arthur Conan Doyle, and there are plenty of places to discover the stories and history of the city. There are over 12 museums as well as the Aspex Art Gallery, Portsmouth's leading contemporary art gallery where you'll find the works of local artists presented alongside internationally recognised names. The city is also home to two Victorian theatres, the Kings Theatre and New Theatre Royal, both of which offer a variety of shows from pantomine to contemporary plays, musicals and comedies.
