Students' Union

Every University has a Students' Union and Portsmouth is no different, we just happen to have one of the friendliest and hardest working Unions in the country.

Run by students, for students

The Union is situated in the centre of the University campus within the Student Centre but is so much more than just a building. The Union is independent from the University of Portsmouth but has the job of improving your experience whilst you are here at the University. To properly achieve this, the Union is a democratic organisation run for students by students. This dedication to students' point of view means that every year five students are elected to run the Union on behalf of all students at the University.

What the Students’ Union can offer you

To make sure that you have the best experience at university, the Union offers its students a vast and diverse collection of activities ranging from rugby and skydiving to belly dancing. Beyond the activities, the Union organises the best student events in the city, whether this is a regular night out at one of the cities most prestigious venues, the University’s own Waterhole bar or something a little different such as black tie events, awards dinners or the Freshers' Fayre.

If things don’t go quite as you expect, the Union is there for you as well. If you are having trouble with your course, with money, the community or something a little more personal, the Union is always there to offer support, guidance or just someone to talk to.

Students are finding standing out in the employment market harder, and to help you get a wider experience at University the Union offers a bunch of CV enhancing activities whether this is volunteering with disabled children, running a sports club, managing our own radio station or becoming the next editor of our student newspaper. National Union of Students

We are affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS) who provide us with external help and excellence in areas such as democracy and governance and we regularly take part in many NUS events. NUS also offer the NUS Extra card which offers you many discounts and can be purchased by following the links on our website.
