European Masters in Translation
In May 2011 Portsmouth's MA Translation Studies programme became a member of the European Masters in Translation network run by the Directorate-General for Translation at the European Commission. This recognises the quality of our training and of our preparation for the translation profession.
The European Masters in Translation (EMT) network is a partnership between the European Commission and universities who offer MA programmes in translation. The main goal of the project is to establish a quality label for university translation programmes that meet agreed standards in relation to curriculum, teaching, professional preparation, infrastructure and facilities. The EMT aims to ensure that programmes are based on a skills-oriented curriculum that will fit graduates to work successfully in today's fast-changing translation market.
Portsmouth is also one of 70 partners from 32 different European countries of the EU project OPTIMALE (Optimising Professional Translator Training in a Multilingual Europe). Part of the Erasmus network, it aims to act as a vehicle and stimulus for innovation and high quality in the training of professional translators. National Network for Translation
The National Network for Translation is an initiative of the Routes into Languages project and aims to raise the profile of translation at a national level and encourage more linguists to choose a career in translation. Portsmouth is one of the six member universities, along with the universities of Salford, Aston, Bath, Heriot Watt and Westminster. Full details of forthcoming events can be found on the Network website.
