Cosmology experts from all over the world have gathered at the University of Portsmouth for a conference to discuss topics such as particle cosmology and cosmic superstrings.

The University’s Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation has welcomed nearly 100 experts from over 20 Institutions at the event which continues until Thursday.

A focus of the conference is observational and theoretical issues to do with cosmic superstrings -lines of pure mass-energy stretching across the entire Universe, which, if they exist, are likely to be billions of light years away.

Reader in Cosmology, Dr Robert Crittenden, said: “Some of the big names in theoretical and particle cosmology are here at the University so it’s an exciting time for the Institute. Having internationally renowned experts together to debate and discuss the existence of cosmic superstrings has been fascinating. No one has ever directly seen superstrings but we have good reason to believe they could exist. We have academics here who are at the forefront of research in particle cosmology and it is great to debate these new advances.”

The idea for annual cosmology meetings began 20 years ago when a group of researchers gathered to discuss subjects related to particle cosmology. The initial meetings were attended by around 15 researchers but each year they continue to grow and different institutions take turns to host.

Dr Crittenden said: “This event is not only valuable to join together leading experts; we also encourage PhD students and younger researchers to present talks. It is such worthwhile experience for them to mingle and network with eminent cosmologists.”

Researchers have come from Institutions in Japan, South Africa, India and France, as well as from many UK Universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Durham and Edinburgh. The meetings are funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council, the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology and the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation.

  1. hello. I am ghasem kazemipour. I am 26 year’s old, from Iran. I have an application from you and I need your consultation. I’d like to publish my scientific idea’s in a creditable scientific organization. these are only topics.
    1. the most important, my idea is about the gravitational attraction force and black hole’s. this is a new understanding to describe the nature of the gravitational attraction force. I need your support to prove, what we call the gravitational attraction force, and also for unification of the different part’s of physics.
why we think the gravity is a weak force. I hope, my theory answers to this question.
but black hole’s have strong gravitational attraction force that we can not see themselves, because light can not escape into the black hole’s but there are radiation’s of masses that, are going around the black hole {in accretion disk}, so when we look at that place, we can understand, there is a black hole in that place, in space. this is the external description of this discovery, but for understanding the internal structure of black hole’s we have to do experiment’s on stellar explosions and also other related experiment’s, in relation to my scientific theory.

the relevance of the gravitational attraction force of a mass, black hole’s, the gravitational attraction force in the time of creation, {the big-bang theory}, for understanding these the relevances we have to find out, what we call the gravitational attraction force.
what causes the universe to expand? I also hope to describe expansion of universe {Dark Energy}, there is a common relevance between all laws of physics, because everything is created in a moment. this is too much important to describe everything. I personally have to meet you as soon as possible to explain before, the publication of my scientific theories. you can provide this feasibility.

    2. in our solar system, there are asteroid belt between mars and jupiter, and kuiper belt, beyond neptune’s orbit, we know one of them will collide with earth, someday, like apophis. they can destroy our civilization, or some of comet’s can destroy cities, and or they can financially damage us too much. this is a global problem. but I have two plan’s so that to rescue our civilization, we can eject it from its orbit, securely. not by the deep impact and not by atomic bomb. we have to use the proper procedure to succeed, we don’t have to waste time because we have no insurance to live on the earth.

    3. I have designed a robat to rescue injured soldier’s in battle field. we can equip army by this robat to rescue damaged soldier’s in the war. {I will never design something to damage human’s, this is philosophy of my work}. I am so interested to work for you.

    • Hello Ghasem, I suggest you contact your department (tutor or head of department) about this. If you don’t know their names message back name of your course and I’ll find out who they are.
