University secures £3.3m funding to support enterprise

The University has secured £3.3 million of funding from the government to support its enterprise work with business in Portsmouth.

This funding has been awarded to two projects from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF), an initiative designed to help support private sector job creation:

  • Bridging the Gap: a collaboration between the University, The News and Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, that will provide £2million of funding to help small businesses in Portsmouth, Havant and Gosport to grow and create new jobs.
  • The Cell Block: a collaboration between the University and the Portsmouth Naval Property Trust to support the growth of the creative industries in Portsmouth through the provision of business skills development, training, mentoring and through the conversion of the Cell Block building in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard into a new home for creative businesses.

These projects will not only help the city to create new private sector jobs, but they will also enable staff and students to play an important role in that job creation.
