Become a Student Mentor

Are you passionate about providing support and raising the aspirations of young people? If so, becoming a Student Mentor could be the role for you. This is a paid position offered by Purple Door Careers and Recruitment at the University of Portsmouth.

What will I do?

As a Student Mentor you will be required to work with up to five young people (Mentees) on a group basis in a local school. You will undertake face-to-face mentoring with your Mentees for up to an hour over the course of a six-week period.

You are expected to provide academic and general support to your Mentees. Mentees will usually be on the C-D grade boundary.

How much time does it take?

You must commit to six weeks of mentoring and the sessions will fit around your timetable, starting in February 2012. You will not be asked to miss lectures to undertake this work.

Do I get any training?

If you are selected for the role you will be required to attend a full weekend of training. The training weekend is unpaid. Please ensure that you are prepared to commit to this before applying for the position.

What will happen next?

Successful applicants will be notified and interview times will be confirmed. They will take place between the 5-16 December 2011.

All successful applicants will be required to attend an unpaid, final interview and training weekend. The provisional date for this is 4-5 February 2012 at the University of Portsmouth.

This date may subject to change and the training date will be confirmed post interview. Attendance is a requirement of the position and the University will not appoint those who do not attend.
