On Tuesday 7 February 2012, the New Theatre Royal is presenting the Little Theatres exhibition, and they are looking for entries. To mark Charles Dickens’s 200th birthday and to reference the fact that Nicholas Nickleby performed at The Theatre Royal in Portsmouth, the Theatre will go ‘theatrical’ and transform the Dress Circle bar so it is full of little theatre scenes.
The theatre wants you to fill their perspex racks with theatre/show designs. They can be contemporary, Dickensian, of your favourite show or performer – be creative – all ideas are welcomed. The only limitation is the size of the perspex container: Height: 18.5 cm x Width: 16cm x Depth: 3.5cm and that there are only 44 of them.
All ages and talents who would like to take part are most welcome. The exhibition will be opened on Tuesday 7 February 2012 by a celebrity guest and the boxes will stay there for all to see throughout the month of February.
The possibilities are endless for what you can create. Just have fun! – How about a scene which depicts a part of the theatre’s history, or a scene from your favourite Dickens classic to tie in with his 200th anniversary?
Please register your interest in creating your Little Theatre by Monday 30 January 2012 by emailing Cat at lm@newtheatreroyal.com or calling 023 927 78991.
Your miniature scenes need to be dropped in at the Dress Circle bar on Monday 6 February 2012. Why not come and pick up a Perspex stand from the Box Office? It’s open Monday to Saturday 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The Little Theatres Exhibition is just one of the many events being held at the New Theatre Royal on Tuesday 7 February in celebration of Dickens 200th anniversary.
