The second concert in the University sponsored Music in the Round series, featuring a renowned string quartet, will take place this Friday 3 February.
The Doric String Quartet will perform pieces by Haydn, Chausson and Schubert at the Third Floor Arts Centre from 7.30pm.
Formed in 1998, the quartet has performed across the world, receiving praise from audiences and critics alike, and winning several international prizes.
The quartet will perform one of Haydn’s early masterpieces, Chausson’s only string quartet and Schubert’s dramatic masterpiece Death and the Maiden.
Colin Jagger, Director of Music at the University, said: “Two years ago the Doric Quartet was one of the highlights of the season, so it is with great excitement that we welcome them back to Portsmouth.”
Music in the Round is jointly sponsored by the University of Portsmouth and the New Theatre Royal and is supported by a major grant from Arts Council England to tour chamber music to regional venues.
Tickets for the concert are £15 and £12 concessions and are available from the University of Portsmouth on 023 9284 3023 or on the door before the concert.
