Sixteen new candidates, who joined Lord Sugar last week for the latest series of The Apprentice, include University of Portsmouth alumna Katie Wright.
Katie graduated in 2007 with a 1st class degree in Sociology and Social Policy and is currently an editorial and research director for a political publisher. In her audition tape, Katie said she has a fantastic business idea that will make Lord Sugar a lot of money if he wants to come on board.
The 26-year-old said: “University was an eye-opening experience for me. I finally found my feet and discovered my love for writing, researching and studying public and social policy.
“I also grew up massively while I was a student. My Mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and my university flat burnt down but throughout the chaos I somehow managed to secure a 1st class degree.
“I had the best three years of my life at Portsmouth and thank the institution for the support staff provided me – especially when my flat was ruined during an exam period.
“I owe a lot to my sociology lecturer Dr Yvonne Bradshaw who helped me achieve a 1st and who also encouraged me to study for a Masters degree at the London School of Economics.”
Dr Bradshaw said: “Katie was a clear-thinking student who demonstrated an independence of thought and adopted an innovative approach to her studies. She set herself high goals and worked extremely hard and very effectively to achieve these.
“Katie was a pleasure to teach and I feel sure that whatever her future holds she will continue to be a success.”
The second episode of The Apprentice is broadcast tonight at 9.00pm on BBC 1.
