University parking enforcement update

Some staff may have received information regarding the changes to enforcement procedures for our car parks, to comply with changes in the law from 1 October 2012. Recent information may have caused confusion, so we would like to clarify the University’s position.

We are still in negotiations with two external companies who have expressed interest in working with the University regarding our new enforcement procedures. Staff and students will be informed once a decision on a supplier has been made.

These negotiations do not affect our current permit system or the cost to staff and students of parking on campus. We will maintain our own permit system and the procedures and charges for this will not alter in the foreseeable future.

The current negotiations are strictly involving how we enforce our car parks under new government legalisation. We will be working very closely with the new supplier to proceed within our rules and regulations, and any changes to current policy will be made to comply with the law.

Our future aim is to operate all University car parks within the new law, but still provide a fair and professional service to all users.

Further information on car parking can be found at www.port.ac.uk/carparking.
