Sports Development students got the opportunity to learn events management skills by undertaking a range of activities as part of their Events Management in Sport unit.
Some 25,000 people competed in the event, which was held over the weekend of 27 and 28 October, with the main 10 mile race happening on Sunday.

Nova International, the company who ran the event, allowed the students to help with managing aspects of the event as diverse as looking after the elite athletes competing in the race to organising clear signage for the event. They also helped manage and promote the 5k and children’s versions of the event, held on Saturday.

Tom Webb, senior lecturer in sports development, said “Our students were heavily involved with various projects. In the classroom they learn the theory of events management, but nothing beats the feeling of actually doing it.

“They learnt valuable lessons that they will be able to apply to their future careers and had fun at the same time.”
