The University staff magazine, Communicator, has been produced quarterly in its current form for several years. As a result of the recent staff communication review, we will reduce the publication to three issues per year and will redesign the magazine to give a fresh new format.
It’s your magazine, so Communicator’s editor, Claire Brookes, would like your views on some proposed new designs.
View the three designs and let us know what you think.
The next issue of Communicator will be out in March 2013 with the chosen design. In the meantime, you might be interested in our recent publication of Celebrating Success, the University’s annual review.

Whilst I appreciate the aesthetics of this publication can it not be put on a more environmentally friendly paper allowing recycling? Given that it takes only a few mins to read its hardly a publication that needs to be durable and it usually ends up in a bin within 15 mins of reciept!

Hi Colin,
Thank you for your comments. Communicator is printed on 100% recycled stock. We regularly check with departments how many copies they require and reduce numbers distributed inline with requests. We also publish online so staff can choose to read a hard or soft copy. If you would prefer not to receive a printed copy please email staffessentials@port.ac.uk

In a related note (as I can’t remember where I read it!) I saw that the communications survey asked people what their home page was … given that it’s increasingly difficult to switch away from staffessentials, perhaps the results were a little misleading … perhaps a better question would have been to have asked what page people would prefer as a home page (and maybe ‘why’) – personally, I find that I move straight from the staffessentials page to moodle/the google login page (I’m on the Google Apps trial), depending on whether I think I want to check email / see what students are doing first.
On the laptop, I have a set of tabs, which include these & others that I use regularly.
