In a related note (as I can't remember where I read it!) I saw that the communications survey asked people what their home page was ... given that it's increasingly difficult to switch away from staffessentials, perhaps the results were a little misleading ... perhaps a better question would have been to have asked what page people would prefer as a home page (and maybe 'why') - personally, I find that I move straight from the staffessentials page to moodle/the google login page (I'm on the Google Apps trial), depending on whether I think I want to check email / see what students are doing first.
On the laptop, I have a set of tabs, which include these & others that I use regularly.

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your comments. Communicator is printed on 100% recycled stock. We regularly check with departments how many copies they require and reduce numbers distributed inline with requests. We also publish online so staff can choose to read a hard or soft copy. If you would prefer not to receive a printed copy please email staffessentials@port.ac.uk

Whilst I appreciate the aesthetics of this publication can it not be put on a more environmentally friendly paper allowing recycling? Given that it takes only a few mins to read its hardly a publication that needs to be durable and it usually ends up in a bin within 15 mins of reciept!
