English for Academic Purposes

With teaching block one coming to an end, you may have concerns about the performance of some of your students who do not have English as their first language. Perhaps your students are expressing concerns themselves. Is essay writing proving problematic? Do they find it challenging to contribute to seminar discussions? Do they struggle to communicate effectively during presentations? Does their grammar and academic style require improvement? Do they struggle with carrying out research for their assignments?

If so, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) may be the way forward. A team of EAP professionals is here to help and provide classes to support your international/EU students. Classes are run on the following topics:

  • Essay writing skills
  • Presentation and seminar skills
  • Academic research skills
  • Reading and discussing academic texts
  • Grammar and academic style
  • Specialist academic English for postgraduates

If you think any of your students would benefit from these classes please direct them to www.port.ac.uk/eap to apply online, or to contact lorraine.pickett-rose@port.ac.uk.

Please ask your students to register as soon as possible since classes begin again straight after the Christmas holidays.
