Researchers in the Department of Psychology are calling for participants in a variety of studies. Support your fellow students and colleagues by helping with their research:
Perceptions of Faces
Investigating the effects of visual disruptions on perceptions of visual stimuli.
Time requirement: 25-30 minutes
Participants will receive £5
Researchers: Dr. Hartmut Blank, Dr. James Sauer and Emel Atuk. If you are interested, please contact Emel Atuk on: psy90209@myport.ac.uk.
Deception study
The study involves lying or telling the truth about your romantic partner, and therefore we need couples who have been in a relationship for at least one year and are cohabiting. However, we also need participants who are single and have an acquaintance with whom they can pretend to be in a relationship with.
The experiment will take up to 90 minutes, and each participant will be rewarded with £5, plus free tea or coffee!
Time Requirement: 60-90 minutes
Researcher: Zarah Vernham
If you are interested in taking part, please contact Zarah Vernham at zarah.vernham@port.ac.uk.
Perceptions of Spoken Statements
The study is about certain aspects of an individual’s perception of auditory stimuli. Participants will be asked to listen to, and rate their perceptions of, a series of spoken statements. Participants must be fluent English speakers, and cannot have participated in previous phases of the experiment.
Participation can take up to 90 minutes and participants will be paid £7 for their time. Sessions will be running at various times over the coming weeks.
If you are interested in participating, or would like more information, please email ruben.silva@myport.ac.uk or charlotte.hudson@myport.ac.uk.
Measuring attitudes and opinions
Do you have an interest in key issues going on in the world? This is an experiment on attitudes and opinions. You will complete a questionnaire containing several statements expressing attitudes towards things such as the death penalty and abortion. You would then need to indicate your view of the statement.
You will also participate in a video recorded interview to measure facial expressions. The only requirement for participation is the ability to speak good English. The study will take approximately 45 minutes.
