New IT support pages from Information Services

In September Information Services introduced the IT help (www.port.ac.uk/ithelp) pages to meet your IT support needs, quickly and efficiently.

IT help focusses on keywords and a search bar, much in the same way that you will have used search engines such as Google.

The pages allow you to:

  • Check Open Access availability across the campus
  • Gain access to wireless support and advice
  • Find out what to do if your student card is lost or stolen
  • Find solutions to printing problems
  • Access the Staff Directory

And plenty more.

  1. I would like to know when the ‘Staff Directory’ will actually link to Google and not Groupwise ! since this article was posted this week, it seems v odd that the ‘help’ pages contain links which still link to Groupwise, as does Novell, which is still available. This is especially confusing for new staff.

  2. Hi Heather

Thanks for the feedback. I think the issue is that when you click on an email link your settings are still trying to use GroupWise to create an email. In the post migration check-list there are brief instructions on setting up a utility called Affixa to set Google Mail as the default. The instructions are in Appendix A:

    https://docs.google.com/a/port.ac.uk/file/d/0B1pIiaWio2nMejY0cXdPWkQ4RFk/edit

As for the old E-Guide and Staff Directory, there is currently work going on to replace them with a Google solution. As soon as this is ready we will change the links on IT Help.

If you have any problems please feel free to contact me.

    Thanks,
    Adrian
