Portsmouth City Council has been awarded funding from the Accentuate Quality Fund, to organise and host a Disability Arts Showcase. This project seeks to change perceptions by showcasing the talents of deaf and disabled people.
We want to encourage local deaf and disabled people to get involved by creating a piece of artwork based on the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will be showcased at a special exhibition as part of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay evening celebrations on Southsea Common from 2-5pm on Sunday 15th July.
Eligibility:
Open to all deaf or disabled people of any age, who apply to show pieces of any media that are appropriate for the exhibition, this is open to all formats ranging from poetry, music and dance to photography, paintings and short films. All work will be considered, though you should contact london2012@portsmouthcc.gov.uk if you are unsure.
To Enter:
You may enter as many pieces as you like in any format, you can submit your artwork by e-mail to london2012@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or by post to Seafront Services and Events Team, Seafront Office, Avenue de Caen, Southsea, PO5 3NS. Please forward us your entry form by 5pm on Monday 2nd July. There is no entry fee.
Size of artwork:
While we are open to all submissions, the exhibition venue is an enclosed space and therefore we cannot guarantee that large scale pieces will be able to be displayed. We do not want to discourage submission from any artists; we merely just ask you consider the space before completing your work.
Acceptance: You will be notified by email by Friday 6th July.
Security:
The exhibition will be displayed in a special marquee on Southsea Common, as part of the evening celebrations arena and will be staffed at all times, although all work is exhibited at your own risk.
