The University’s Artist in Residence Jon Adams is creating ways for you to get involved when the Torch Relay comes to Portsmouth on 15th and 16th July. A public event to tell the public what is going on during Torch Relay and to help people to organise their own flag events is being organised by Portsmouth City Council on Friday 15th June at Cascades between 11:00-15:00.
Please come along to Cascades on the 15th June if you would like to join in, learn how to make flags, and then plan your own event. Jon is encouraging people to get involved by making Flags and Bunting from old book pages – an extension of one of his current projects, Dysarticulate.
Dysarticulate encourages people of all ages to become an ‘artist for a day’ by creating and planting flags made from recycled book pages. Dysarticulate is influenced by Jon’s dyslexia and his love of hidden meaning. There is a DIY kit available to download to help you make your own flags and bunting. This is available on the University website here:

Information about the Torch relay in Portsmouth and a link to a pdf version of the route the torch will take can be viewed here: http://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/London2012/torch-relay.html
Jon’s Dysarticulate (Flags) project is now in it’s third year, and this year has concentrated on involving schools with flag making events. Thousands of children have been involved in the project, and you can see photographs and further information on the Dysarticulated Schools website here: http://www.dysarticulatedschools.org/
