BAFTA 2013 Winner James Rutherford

James Rutherford recently won this year’s BAFTA Award for Television Craft , Digital Creativity for his work during the coverage of the London Paralympics 2012. James, a 2002 University of Portsmouth graduate in Bsc(Hons) Entertainment and Technology, is currently the Multiplatform Commissioning Editor for Sport Editor (MPCEs).
He is editorially answerable to the main TV genre teams, who are tasked with finding new interactive formats for Channel 4′s TV schedule at Channel 4.
He and his team took the award from other outstanding creative projects for having had organised the digital offerings of London 2012 Paralympics. They succeeded in creating optimum experiences which was made possible and accessible through a variety of platform by creating a dedicated website, Apps for phones and tablets, being always at the forefront of ground breaking news distributed on social media, innovative new video player and took a unique stance for all editorial contents. The award was presented by Grace Dent writer for the Independent.
James previous commissioning in sport was C4’s digital around the IAAF World Athletics broadcast on C4 in 2011 and 2012.
James previously worked as a Senior Producer includes commissioning Derren Brown’s Events website which included a live stream of Derren predicting the national lottery results live, commissioning and managing an external team to produce content and programme support for Hollyoaks, and also managing the relationship between C4 and the external editorial teams producing the online content across Channel 4 Food and Film 4.
James, also, produced content and worked on a broad range of Channel 4 brands – Peep Show, Father Ted, The Big Fish Fight, Pete versus Life, the FWord, Friday Night Dinner, Campus, Jamie’s Dream School, Grand Designs, Come Dine With Me amongst others.
