Tonic Music support musicians with mental health problems access music related activities with the aim of promoting recovery through music. The project organise music events with the aim of reducing social stigma and discrimination that is often associated with mental health.
The music workshop based around confidence and belief for musicians and poets. This will be a mixed ability / people with and without mental health problems. The workshop will be facilitated by Vinny Peculiar (lead singer of Parlour Flames – also an ex psychiatric nurse and commissioner) and Bonehead (ex lead guitarist from Oasis). They will also be performing at the evening gig directly after the workshop. The participants on the workshop are also invited to perform.
It is an ideal event for students interested in those areas but also a chance to see how a music event like this is run on our home turf and as you can see there are some potential networking opportunities with some famous names. This includes, registering participants, sell raffle tickets, tickets on the door, be a runner for the musicians performing etc.
Last year we organised our first music event at Portsmouth Pyramids with over 40 musicians and DJ’s (including Mike Joyce from The Smiths and Mark Morriss from The Bluetones) across 4 stages. We attracted around 1000 people over the course of the event.
- sound check 6.30pm, doors 7.30pm
- show 8pm until 11pm.
All interested parties should send their CV and a quick covering e-mail stating which role you are keen on to: Tonicmusic@hotmail.co.uk
There is an even bigger event, Tonic 2, on 12th October where you can get involved with the event at a much earlier stage in different tasks, including events promotion.
This will be held at The Pyramids to coincide with World Mental Health Day. We have confirmed The Neville Staple Band (The Specials), Parlour Flames (ex Oasis), Small Fakers, Hipshaker DJ’s with many more to be announced.
