The University of Portsmouth, Aspex Gallery and six FE colleges/sixth form colleges are jointly inviting Creative and Cultural Industries students to work with a commissioned artist for New Creatives 2013, an artist-led exhibition project aiming to inspire FE students and exploring ‘Does making things make us human?’. Please note this is an unpaid, voluntary work initiative.

Leslie Hakim-Dowek’s, a lecturer from the School of Art, Design and Media has photographic showing as part of The World in London is an ambitious outdoor photography project for 2012, showing London’s diversity and photography’s unique role in capturing the human form.

Would you like the opportunity to work with a BBC producer? This summer there are lots of events and activities taking place across the city celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To capture this, Portsmouth City Council are looking for a team of volunteers to film and take photographs of events such as the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay and also the events being held at the Portsmouth Live Site (Big Screen in Guildhall Square).

The University’s Artist in Residence Jon Adams is creating ways for you to get involved when the Torch Relay comes to Portsmouth on 15th and 16th July. A public event to tell the public what is going on during Torch Relay and to help people to organise their own flag events is being organised by Portsmouth City Council on Friday 15th June at Cascades between 11:00-15:00.

Portsmouth City Council has been awarded funding from the Accentuate Quality Fund, to organise and host a Disability Arts Showcase. This project seeks to change perceptions by showcasing the talents of deaf and disabled people.
In Conversation – Suki Chan at Aspex – Friday 15th June

On Friday 15 June at 6pm, Suki Chan will discuss the installation of her show A Hundred Seas Rising with one of its contributors, Dave Beech, who is an artist and a regular writer for Art Monthly and other art journals. He has written widely on the politics of art and revolution.

Creative Campus Initiative (CCI) wins Gold in the creative cultural project category at the London 2012 PODIUM awards ceremony last week. CCI includes University of Portsmouth projects such as New Creatives, A Hundred Seas Rising, Visual Libraries, Love Your Bike, Dysarticulate, The Order of Things 17 and Mapping of Spaces and Sensory Space.
